The Mount Clemens DDA was established in April 1983 to revitalize Downtown Mount Clemens. Through various activities, the DDA works to strengthen the economy and vitality of the downtown district. A lively downtown increases property values throughout the city while improving the quality of life for all residents. To support this effort, the DDA is engaged in a variety of development projects while producing and/or sponsoring over 25 events annually Downtown.

The Mount Clemens Downtown Development Authority was established by the Mount Clemens City Commission in 1983 under state statute with its sole purpose to encourage the redevelopment of Downtown Mount Clemens. This redevelopment would lead to city-wide tax base growth. The funding method, the Tax Increment Financing Authority (TIFA) district, was established in 1985. Staff was first hired in 1990, and began to implement a variety of efforts to begin the successful turn-around of Downtown Mount Clemens.

Since the founding of the DDA, it has engaged in a variety of promotional events to highlight Downtown Mount Clemens to residents and visitors alike. This exposure is geared to encourage repeat visits and pedestrian traffic for the businesses located in the Downtown. The Mount Clemens DDA produces five events and series annually while supporting six additional events/series produced or promoted by outside agencies. Staff of the DDA also supports a variety of development projects and marketing efforts that support redevelopment with two staff people year-round.
